It’s that time of year again (dare we say the most wonderful time of the year?) when turkeys are roasted, parties are planned, lights are strung – and you start planning your annual holiday road trip. While the festivity of the holiday season is always a joy, the accidents that befall many road-trippers this time of year are anything but. This year, make sure you’re prepared for your holiday travels with a solid auto insurance policy. Then be sure to take these precautions before setting out:
Auto Insurance: One of Five Things to Cover Before Your Holiday Road Trip
Get a tune-up: Even if your car is relatively new, it never hurts to get it checked out by a reputable professional and make sure that everything is in working order. Make sure your tires are in good condition and that your brakes are functioning properly. It’s also a good idea to get your fluids checked and topped off.
Map it out: Avoid getting flustered while you’re on the road by making sure you know your route beforehand. Print out directions or use a GPS system (not handheld) and make sure you already know where you plan to stop to rest or stay the night.
Make sure your auto insurance policy is current: While you definitely want to ensure everything is current, you should also check to see that you have your proof of auto insurance in your car as well as the contact information for your agent or auto insurance company.
Get plenty of rest: Driving drowsy can have disastrous consequences. As anxious as you are to get to your holiday destination, be sure not to sacrifice your sleep. Get a good night’s rest the night before you leave and avoid driving late. If you have an especially long drive ahead, break it up into two or more days.
